Each Thursday at the Kensington Housing Estate we’ve been having a lot of fun cooking, gardening and sharing a delicious meal together, as part of our Healthy Living & Learning for Seniors Project. More than 20 people attend each week and we’ve prepared a variety of cuisines. Most memorable have been our Arabic feast lead by Mohammed and Victor and our Dumpling Day coordinated by the Chinese elders.
Local cohealth Dietician, Sujata, presents a relevant topic to the group each week and is available to meet individually with participants. We have been pleasantly surprised by how interested people are in managing their own health and the positive changes they have made to their diet following these sessions.
A recipe book will be published and given to all participants.
This project has been a collaboration between Unison, 78 Seniors, cohealth and Kensington Neighbourhood House funded by the State Trustees. Each session is facilitated by Anne Douglas with support from Bronwyn Riddell. A big thanks to Second Bite for donating fresh produce and groceries each week.
