Imagine trying to help your child with their school reading when you are unable to read yourself. For many parents, this is a frustrating reality.
We know that a parent’s lack of education can impact on all family members and perpetuate a cycle of intergenerational disadvantage. Our new Reading & Writing class is designed to break that cycle and help parents become active participants in their children’s schooling.
Partnering with the great team at The Venny (Kensington’s community playground), we are offering a regular Reading & Writing Class for parents with young children. Children have the run of the playground under the supervision of The Venny staff, while parents focus on literacy lessons with one of our fantastic teachers.
Providing childcare and a friendly, informal place to study helps break down the barriers to learning and makes “going back to school” a lot less scary.
