Come along on Sunday March 31 from 10am to 4pm to Kensington’s JJ Holland Park precinct and enjoy a huge day of FREE family fun.
Now in its 11th year the Festival is a much anticipated community event celebrating Kensington’s diversity. This year the Festival compliments Cultural Diversity Week and is held on Neighbour Day.
The Festival promises a family friendly and festive atmosphere with live music from Bollywood to China, global food vans, henna hand painting, community stalls, face-painting, an animal farm, hula hoop and tai chi workshops, art and craft and African drumming and dance.
The Kensington Sustainable Living Expo is back as part of this year’s Festival, including a pop up mini repair hub (byo small items for repair e.g. jewellery, textiles and wooden items, and bikes), information on backyard chickens and worm farms, local composting, food gardens, DIY seeds, the UpShop Industries and much more.
The Kensington CommUNITY Festival is led by Unison Housing with a whole host of residents and community partners including the Kensington Neighbourhood House.
This year the Kensington Neighbourhood House will again host its own stall. Visit our stall and try your hand at Chinese calligraphy, contribute to our community art work or learn about Kolam, Indian chalk art. In the Pavilion we’ll be displaying our Return to the Dollhouse textile project and our new Faces of Kensington photographic exhibition. Bring some loose change and an appetite as a group of our students will also be making and selling delicious food.
All the above can’t happen without the help of volunteers so once again we are recruiting a team of volunteers to help out on the day. Volunteering is a great way to be part of this exciting community event. There’s a wide range of roles that need to be filled so we’re sure to find something that’s of interest to You. Volunteer for a couple of hours or all day – it’s up to you!
If you’d like to volunteer at this year’s festival please telephone Carolyn on 9376 6366.
